From Silos to Insight: Unified Reporting for City of Peterborough Social Services
Client: City of Peterborough, Ontario | Mid-sized municipality, ~83,000 residents
The City of Peterborough’s Social Services division operated across nearly ten disconnected systems from social assistance platforms to homelessness management tools making timely, accurate reporting a significant challenge. Staff relied on manual extractions and Excel-based reporting, which was time-consuming, error-prone, and difficult to govern.
Alphabyte designed and delivered a centralized data and reporting solution built on Microsoft Azure and Power BI, integrating the division’s fragmented data landscape into a unified, governed environment. The solution was built to scale and designed for internal sustainability from day one.
Delivered:
- A centralized Azure SQL Data Warehouse consolidating data from multiple source systems
- Automated ETL pipelines via Azure Data Factory, replacing manual data extraction workflows
- A Power BI reporting framework with 10 operational dashboards spanning housing, homelessness, child care, and caseload management
- Role-based access control and row-level security aligned with municipal data governance standards
- Hands-on training, documentation, and knowledge transfer to support long-term internal ownership
