Power BI Consulting

Alphabyte is a Power BI consulting firm. We help mid-market and enterprise organizations connect their data, build Power BI reports and dashboards people actually use, and set up the security, refresh and sharing that keep those reports reliable as the business grows.

Our Power BI consultants work with teams on everything from a first dashboard to a full reporting rebuild.

What We Do

Power BI consulting services that bring scattered data into reports your managers trust and use every week.

Power BI is Microsoft's business intelligence tool and part of the Microsoft Power Platform. It connects to your ERP, CRM, finance systems and spreadsheets, models the data and shares interactive reports across your organization, on the web and on mobile. Many teams buy licences and then stall at the hard parts: messy data, slow models and numbers that do not match.

That is where a Power BI consultant helps. We clean and model your data, build reports around the decisions each team makes, and set up refresh, security and workspaces so the solution runs without constant attention. Our Power BI best practices explain how we design reports people read every week, and our Power BI dashboard examples show the views executives rely on.

Power BI is a strong fit for many organizations on Microsoft 365. We also build dashboards in Tableau, Looker and Qlik Sense, live dashboards with Claude, and custom reporting when a project calls for it.

Our Approach

  • Over 1 to 2 weeks we meet your stakeholders, review your data sources and current reports, and map the existing data architecture. We agree on the business questions Power BI must answer and the KPIs behind them. Reports that already work are kept, so the project builds on what your team already trusts.

  • We set out the scope, timeline, milestones and the people involved on both sides. You see report mockups, an outline of the data model and the workspace approach before any build starts. Licence costs are billed separately by Microsoft, and we help you choose the licence types that suit your users.

  • We clean, shape and model your data so reports are fast and the numbers match your source systems. This is where most data quality and integration problems surface, and we fix them at the source where we can. When you combine many systems, we may recommend a warehouse underneath.

  • Over 3 to 8 weeks we build the data model, measures, reports and dashboards, with a focus on usability and performance. Each page answers a defined question for a defined audience. We review the work with your team in short cycles, so feedback shapes the reports while they are still easy to change.

  • Your end users test the reports against real scenarios and real numbers before launch. We reconcile key figures against your source systems, fix what does not match and adjust layouts based on feedback. Nothing goes live until the people who rely on it agree the numbers are right.

  • We configure the Power BI environment, including workspaces, apps, security roles and gateways where on-premises data is involved. Reports are published to the right audiences, refresh schedules are set and failure alerts are switched on, so you hear about a broken source before anyone sees a wrong number.

  • We train report users and power users, and document every model and measure so your team can extend the solution. After launch we can stay on for ongoing support, new reports, new data sources and performance tuning as your systems and business questions change over time.

Your Power BI Consulting Team

Power BI projects work best when the same team handles the data and the reports. Alphabyte is a Microsoft Solutions Partner, founded in 2015, and has served 100+ organizations. We have built Power BI reporting for e-commerce, hospitality and construction teams, including a bid pipeline view for Modern Niagara.

When reporting needs a stronger base, we also build the data integration and warehouse underneath, including on Microsoft Fabric. That gives you one team that owns the numbers from source system to dashboard, and one place to call when something needs to change.

Our team holds Microsoft certifications including Power BI Data Analyst Associate and Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate. See the full list on our certifications page.

We work with mid-market and enterprise organizations. Related services: data analytics & BI consulting, dashboard development and data warehousing services.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • It is outside help to plan, build and run reporting in Microsoft Power BI. A consultant agrees on the KPIs that matter, connects and models your data, builds reports and dashboards, and sets up security, refresh and sharing. Good consulting also fixes the data underneath, so every team works from the same figures and trusts what it sees.

  • A Power BI consultant turns business questions into working reports. That means connecting data sources, cleaning and modelling the data, writing the measures behind each KPI, designing report pages and configuring workspaces, security and refresh. At Alphabyte our consultants also reconcile numbers against your source systems and train your team, so the reports keep working after the project ends.

  • Most organizations bring in Power BI consultants when month-end reporting takes days of exports, when reports are slow, or when two departments bring different numbers to the same meeting. Other common reasons are a move from spreadsheets or an older BI tool, a new data source that has to be combined with existing ones, or a team that has licences but no one with time to build.

  • Cost depends on the number of data sources, how clean the data is, how many reports and audiences you need, and whether a warehouse is required underneath. Licence costs are billed separately by Microsoft. We scope each project with you before we start, often beginning with a focused first release so you see value early and can decide on the next phase with real information.

  • Both are capable business intelligence tools. Power BI often suits organizations already on Microsoft 365 and Azure, because it fits with the tools and sign-in your team already uses. Tableau is popular with analyst teams that already have it in place. We work with both and can help you choose.

  • Most clients see a first reporting release in about 6 to 10 weeks. Discovery takes 1 to 2 weeks, and building the data model and reports usually takes 3 to 8 weeks, depending on the number of sources and how much data preparation is needed. Larger programs are delivered in phases, with each release adding reports on the same shared model.

  • Not always. Power BI can connect straight to a few clean sources and work well. Once you combine several systems, need history that your source systems do not keep, or see different numbers in different reports, a data warehouse or Microsoft Fabric is usually the better base. We help you decide when that step makes sense for your data and budget.

  • Power BI is the reporting and dashboard layer. Microsoft Fabric is a wider Microsoft data platform that brings pipelines, data storage, warehousing and Power BI reporting together in one place. Many organizations start with Power BI on its own and move to Fabric as their data grows. We help you decide if and when Fabric is worth adopting for your situation.

  • A single in-house hire can be a good choice for steady, well-defined report work. A Power BI consulting company brings a team that covers data engineering, modelling, report design, security and training, which helps when data is spread across systems or the project needs to move quickly. Some clients use us to set up the foundation, then hand ongoing work to an internal hire.

  • Yes. Many projects start with reports someone else built. We review your existing models, measures and report pages, keep what works and rebuild what is slow, inaccurate or hard to maintain. We then document how each KPI is calculated, so your team knows what every number means and can maintain the reports with confidence.
