Cybersecurity Audit Services

Most organizations find their security gaps after an incident, when fixing them costs far more. Alphabyte is a Toronto team that delivers structured cybersecurity audits. We evaluate your security controls, access management, cloud configuration, data protection and policies against recognized frameworks such as NIST, ISO 27001 and SOC 2.

You get risk-rated findings and a prioritized remediation roadmap, grounded in evidence rather than assumptions.

What We Do

A cybersecurity audit that shows where your security stands today and what to fix first.

Our cybersecurity audit services give you a documented assessment of your security posture across governance, technical controls, access management and compliance. We review policies, configurations and how things work in practice, then rate each gap by likelihood and business impact.

Most clients come to us before a client security review or a compliance effort, after a major change such as a move to the cloud, or because nobody has looked at the whole picture in a while. Others need an IT security audit to show leadership where the risks are and what fixing them involves.

The audit scope covers eight areas: security controls, identity and access, framework compliance, cloud configuration including Microsoft Azure, data protection and encryption, third-party risk, policy and governance, and the final report. We agree with you which areas and systems are in scope before we start.

01

Security Controls Assessment

Network, endpoint, identity, encryption, logging and incident response controls evaluated.

02

Access Management & Identity Review

How access is granted, managed and removed, including privileged accounts.

03

Regulatory & Framework Compliance Review

Your posture mapped to NIST CSF, ISO 27001, SOC 2, PIPEDA or HIPAA.

04

Cloud Security Configuration Review

Identity, network segmentation, storage access and logging settings in Microsoft Azure.

05

Data Protection & Encryption Assessment

How sensitive data is classified, encrypted and handled in transit and at rest.

06

Third-Party & Vendor Risk Review

Vendor access, integrations and contractual security obligations reviewed for risk.

07

Security Policy & Governance Review

Policies, incident response, change management and staff awareness checked for currency.

08

Audit Report & Remediation Roadmap

Risk-rated findings, framework mappings and a sequenced plan to close gaps.

How can Alphabyte Help me?
We Understand Digital Transformation

  • We agree on the systems, environments, frameworks and obligations in scope, and the security questions the audit must answer. A clear scope keeps the audit focused and tells you exactly what will and will not be covered. Scoping and kickoff usually take about 1 to 2 weeks.

  • We review your security policies, governance documents, access procedures, incident response plans and configuration standards. The aim is to see whether the documented control environment is current, complete and in line with the frameworks you have chosen, before we check how it works in practice.

  • We evaluate the technical controls across your environment, including access configurations, encryption, logging and monitoring coverage, network security and cloud settings. We use a structured assessment framework, so each control is checked the same way and every finding can be traced back to evidence.

  • We talk with IT, operations and leadership to confirm how controls work day to day. This is where gaps between written policy and actual behavior show up, along with areas where awareness, training or process changes would reduce risk. Interviews are short and scheduled around your team.

  • We analyze every finding against the frameworks and requirements in scope. Each gap gets a risk rating based on the likelihood of exploitation and the potential business impact, so your team can see what matters most rather than a long, unranked list of issues.

  • We deliver a structured report with risk-rated findings, framework mappings and a prioritized remediation roadmap. We walk leadership and IT through the results, separating quick fixes from longer projects, so the people who own each action know what to do next and in what order.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • A cybersecurity audit is a structured review of how well your organization protects its systems and data. It checks security controls, access management, cloud configuration, data protection and policies against a recognized framework such as NIST or ISO 27001. The output is a set of risk-rated findings and a plan to close the gaps.

  • The terms are often used interchangeably. An audit usually measures your controls against a defined standard or framework and records evidence for each finding. An assessment is often broader and more advisory, focused on risk and priorities. Our engagements combine both: we check controls against a framework and rate each gap by risk.

  • Our audits can cover eight areas: security controls, access management and identity, regulatory and framework compliance, cloud security configuration, data protection and encryption, third-party and vendor risk, security policy and governance, and a final report with a remediation roadmap. We agree on which areas and systems are in scope before we start.

  • You receive a written audit report with risk-rated findings, the evidence behind each one, a mapping to the frameworks in scope and a prioritized remediation roadmap. We also walk leadership and IT through the results, so everyone understands the main risks and who owns each fix.

  • Common triggers are a client or partner asking about your security controls, preparing for a framework such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001, a move to the cloud, a recent incident or near miss, or simply no independent review in a long time. An audit gives leadership an evidence-based view of risk before it becomes an incident.

  • No. A SOC 2 report is issued by a licensed CPA firm, and ISO 27001 certification comes from an accredited certification body. Our audit assesses how your controls compare with those frameworks and what needs to change, which helps you prepare. It does not replace the formal attestation or certification itself.

  • A cybersecurity audit reviews your controls, configurations, policies and practices across the organization. A penetration test actively tries to exploit specific weaknesses in a system to see how far an attacker could get. An audit tells you where your security program has gaps. A penetration test shows how one particular weakness could be used.

  • A focused audit of one environment usually takes about 4 to 6 weeks from kickoff to final report. Audits that span several environments, frameworks or locations take longer. Timing also depends on how quickly documentation and stakeholders are available, and we agree on the timeline with you during scoping.

  • Cost depends on scope: the number of systems and cloud environments, which frameworks apply, how much documentation already exists and how many people we need to interview. A focused audit of one environment takes less effort than an organization-wide review. We agree on scope with you before we start, so the cost is clear up front.

  • Yes. Cloud security configuration is a core part of our audits, with attention to identity management, network segmentation, storage access, logging and monitoring, and secure deployment practices in Microsoft Azure. If you want ongoing help running Azure after the audit, our Azure managed services team can support that.
