IT & Current State Assessments

Alphabyte's IT assessment services give you a clear, evidence-based view of the technology you already have, including your systems, data practices, security controls and the workflows that depend on them. Our Toronto team is vendor neutral and works from how your organization operates today.

Most organizations do not lack technology. They lack a clear picture of what they have, how well it works and where the real gaps are.

What We Do

IT assessment services and current state assessments that show where your technology stands and what to fix first.

A technology assessment documents your systems, applications, infrastructure and data, and rates how well each one supports the business. We look at performance, reliability, security and scalability, and we talk to the people who use the systems every day, not only the documentation.

Clients usually ask for an IT assessment before a big decision, such as replacing an ERP, moving to the cloud or starting a reporting or analytics project, or when a new leader needs an honest baseline. Without one, plans rest on assumptions and incomplete information.

The assessment is the first step in our digital advisory work, and its findings feed straight into requirements, vendor selection and planning, so nothing you learn is lost. Data quality findings are often the starting point, as we explain in trusting your data.

How can Alphabyte Help me?
We Understand Digital Transformation

  • We agree on scope, objectives and the decisions the assessment needs to support, such as a system replacement or a cloud move. We confirm which systems and teams are in scope, who we need to speak with and when you will see findings, so the work stays focused on what you need to decide.

  • We meet leaders, managers and frontline staff through interviews, workshops and short surveys. The goal is to learn how work really happens today, not just how it is documented. People often describe workarounds and frustrations that never appear in a system diagram, and those details shape the findings.

  • We examine your systems, data flows, integration points and infrastructure with one consistent framework. Each component is rated on functionality, performance, security, scalability and fit with business needs. We also check data quality and governance, because any reporting or analytics plan depends on them.

  • We map the key workflows to create a clear record of how operations run today. The maps show where handoffs break down, where staff re-key data between systems and where manual effort fills a gap that a system should cover. These maps are yours to keep and reuse.

  • We compare the current state with where the organization needs to be. Each gap is rated for business impact, urgency and the effort needed to close it, and security or legacy risks are called out clearly. This turns a long list of issues into a short list of priorities.

  • You receive a structured report with findings, prioritized recommendations and the reasoning behind each one. We present it to leadership and answer questions. Most assessments take 3 to 6 weeks from kickoff to report, depending on the number of systems and teams involved.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • A current state assessment is a structured review of how your technology, data and processes work today. It documents what you have, how well it performs and where the gaps are. It is the baseline for any plan to replace systems, improve processes or invest in reporting and analytics.

  • A typical assessment covers your systems and applications, infrastructure, data practices, integrations, security controls and key workflows. It includes interviews with the people who use the systems. You receive a report with findings, rated gaps and prioritized recommendations that your team can act on.

  • Common triggers are an upcoming system replacement, a move to the cloud, a merger, a new IT or finance leader, repeated outages, or reports that nobody trusts. Any time you are about to make a significant technology investment, an assessment helps you start from facts rather than assumptions.

  • An audit checks systems against a defined standard or set of controls and reports where they fall short. An assessment is broader. It looks at how well your technology supports the business, where the gaps and risks are, and what to do next. Alphabyte offers both.

  • Most assessments take 3 to 6 weeks from kickoff to final report. A focused review of a single system or department can be shorter, and an organization with many platforms may need longer. We agree the timeline in the scope before the work starts.

  • Cost depends on the number of systems, departments and locations in scope, how much documentation already exists and how deep the security review needs to go. We agree the scope and deliverables with you in writing before we begin, so you know exactly what the assessment covers.

  • Yes. We assess what you have on its merits and recommend what fits your needs, including keeping systems that work well. We are a Microsoft Solutions Partner and say so openly, but our findings are based on evidence and the reasoning behind every recommendation is written down.

  • The current state describes how your technology and processes work today. The future state describes how they should work to meet your goals. The gap between them defines the work to be done. An assessment documents the current state, and an implementation roadmap plans the move to the future state.

  • Not much. Most of the work is document review and system analysis that we do ourselves. Staff time is mainly a small number of interviews or workshops, scheduled around your team. We need read access to some systems, which we agree with your IT team at kickoff.

  • The report gives you a prioritized list of what to address. Many clients move on to business analysis to define requirements, software selection to compare vendors, or an implementation roadmap to sequence the work. You can act on the findings with your own team, other partners or Alphabyte.
